Caledonian Canal Canoeing

Canoe down the Caledonian Canal

In this expedition we will aim to traverse the Scottish Highlands from West to East along Scotland’s great canal route, by canoe. Travelling on open lochs linked by sections of rivers and canal, this route is surprisingly remote and filled with wildlife interest.

  • 10am Friday 14th June - 4pm Monday 17th June 2024

  • Starts Fort William, finishes Inverness

  • Difficulty Level: Moderate (For those with limited experience of canoe journeys, please complete the canoe training available in May first)

  • Cost: £300 per person, (members £200), plus canoe hire £50 per boat.

  • Max participants: 8

  • Expedition leader: Stuart Lockton

You will be guided along the length of the Caledonian Canal from West to East. Accommodation will be at formal campsites along the route, where we will camp each night. The canal and lochs, including Loch Ness the longest loch in Scotland, provide constant interest and a few sections of excitement. The landscape is endlessly fascinating, with a wide range of wildlife encountered on each journey. The route is prone to strong winds and completion of the route cannot be guaranteed.

Canoes and paddling equipment will be provided if needed, you will need to bring your own clothing and camping and cooking equipment. Guides will support with the camping as with the paddling.

Pick-up and drop off is possible from Inverness train station or Inverness airport by pre-arrangement.
