Learn the skills to navigate safely and wild camp in the Lake District - packing, site choice, tents, cooking, hygiene and all the skills you need to survive and thrive in the wilderness.

  • Cost of tuition for the course: £200 per person (members £140) or £80 per person per day,

  • Max participants: 8

  • Participants can join for one, two or three days of this course

This is a three day training event starting from Butarlyp Youth Hostel Grasmere, and partly on the fells including a high-level overnight camp. Participants will be guided and supported by a qualified and expert mountain leader.

Day 1 of the course will cover essential mountain navigation, days 2 and 3 looking at best clothing and equipment, packing for an expedition, route choice and everything you need to know about camping out in the fells in the UK, including site choice, cooking a meal and camp safety and hygiene.

Participants should bring their own tent and camping equipment if possible, although equipment for the event can be borrowed from our store by pre-arrangement.
